COCHLEAR IMPLANT
The cochlear implant device, which is applied to people with hearing impairment, first receives and processes the sound and encodes it digitally. The coded data is transferred to the implant via the electronic system. The implant transmits this digital information to the nerves in the cochlea with the help of electrodes. The nerve cells transmit this information to the brain and the hearing function is realized.
For a cochlear implant, the hearing impairment must be bilateral, severe and sensorineural. Since language development and hearing are mutually supportive processes, it is recommended that the implant be placed early in life. It is also important to apply the implant after speech and language skills training in order to benefit from the implant.
