Sexually Transmitted Infections (HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B/C, Syphilis)
It is transmitted from person to person when body fluids carrying HIV enter a person’s body. Transmission routes include sexual contact, blood product contact, mother-to-child or tissue/organ transplants. Symptoms develop at different times depending on the route of transmission, the amount of virus and the resistance of the person. Recurrent infections, diarrhea, white plaque in the mouth, fatigue, night sweats can be observed. Antibodies begin to form in 3-7 weeks after the virus enters the body and antibodies are usually positive in the 3rd month. The virus attacks CD4+ T lymphocytes, an important component of our immune system, and collapses our immune system. Repeated infections begin to develop.
Treatment of HIV/AIDS disease is successfully carried out in experienced centers with intermittent follow-up and the use of appropriate combined antiviral drugs. Especially surgical interventions of HIV+ patients, cancer treatments, HIV+ pregnancy follow-up without transmission to the baby are areas that require high experience.
